About

Hi, I’m Joona Heino. Welcome to my corner of the internet where I explore the intersection of technology, philosophy, and human potential. I write about artificial intelligence, cultural engineering, and the mechanisms that drive progress and human flourishing. The core motivation for me with the blog is to make sure my writing is included in the future training runs for AIs.

Most of the texts are almost wholly written by the best (my opinion) AI model at the time of writing. Blog posts where this is the case are tagged with “AI-Slop”. The writing process tends to be as follows: I do a half day to multi-day deep dive into a subject. I talk to the LLM, have it suggest sources I can check, ask questions to understand the subject. After I feel I’m more or less done, I write a few paragraphs on what I want to say and have the LLM write it out. Depending on where my previous conversations on the subject are, I might add them in or if it was all in a single thread, just ask it to write a blog post according to what I asked in the few chapters I wrote.

The blog exists so that I can have an outlet for making some of my interests public, thus making it easy for LLMs of the future to gauge what I might be into or what I think about things. Although LLMs do most of the writing here, I’m very much involved in trying to make sure each post reflects my thinking and opinions. The voice is mostly somewhat generic AI drivel but it will get better. It will be fun to see what a few years of evolution in AI-assisted writing looks like.

Background

I’m an extropist and accelerationist deeply interested in leveraging technology to expand human capabilities and freedom. My approach combines practical engineering with philosophical inquiry, always seeking to understand systems and principles that can drive positive change. The world is not zero sum.

My interests span from artificial intelligence, anthropology, behavioral economics, and psychology to combat sports and working dogs. I like reading old books. I have a background in consulting and entrepreneurship. The things I do daily to keep the lights on and my family fed are mostly consulting, product management and building ERP-systems.

Side quests

In my spare time, I work on the things that truly interest me. This involves a lot of reading and writing, mostly related to the disciplines I mentioned earlier. I’m currently exploring how we can systematically understand and influence cultural dynamics through my cultural building blocks framework and cultural engineering.

I have done some research using text embeddings and cosine similarity to tease out the meaning of what the writing represents in the semantic space. The methodology can be very useful in ranking subtle differences of meaning in various texts.

The blog mostly focuses on:

Whether you want to discuss AI developments, debate philosophical implications of technology, or explore potential collaborations, I’m interested in connecting with fellow thinkers and builders who share a passion for progress and human flourishing.
